COVID forced a break in my Center sessions, settling on walking with friends as an exercise routine. Post-COVID and in my early 80s, I rejoined and realized that my upper body strength and general conditioning were not where they needed to be. By fortunate happenstance, I was matched with Kylenas, a trainer. Kyle discussed my conditioning goals and evaluated my starting point. Since then, we have worked together, varying the routine and slowly increasing the upper limits of weight settings on the various upper body and leg machines (to strengthen muscles supporting problematic knees!). These sessions are essential to my sense of well-being. We also share a common interest in track and field (Kyles is a high school track coach), which makes for interesting side discussions. From what I can tell, he’s up to speed on what’s happening in any sport. Kyle is analytical about issues or problems, and his affable manner makes discussion easy. As I move about the facility with him, I notice that he is greeted by members both older and younger than me – they must agree.
